Destination of the Day: Mariners' Church, Detroit, MI

Destination 1 in the series "...see all the people"

Yes, this is the same church mentioned in the Gordon Lightfoot song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Located in the shadow of GM Renaissance Center and next to the Detroit Windsor Tunnel the church was built around 1848 using funds provided by Julia Anderson on the lot of her mansion and then moved to its current location in 1955. While the church's web site does not mention organized tours a GLCTer can probably schedule something during normal office hours.
