Destination of the Week: Springfield, IL-Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum

Destination of the Week: Springfield, IL-Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum

Opened in 2005, the museum has divided critics almost as much as the country was during Lincoln’s presidency.  Critics felt it was too  “Disney-like” with its combination of entertainment and special effects-heavy theater shows.  Others have applauded how it uses technology and engagement to help visitors relate to conditions at the time.  In 2014 TripAdvisor named the center on its 2014 Travelers Choice (#19) list of best museums in the US.  Other than not being able to take photos, I enjoyed myself and spend nearly an entire afternoon wondering the galleries and attending the theatre shows.
