Destination of the Week: Toledo, OH

Destination of the Week: Toledo, OH

Summary:
Toledo is a tough town to love.  Located about 5 miles from Lake Erie, the city was most recently in the news this summer for a drinking water ban.  The city lacks the natural beauty of Madison, WI, or the hype of Grand Rapids.  Instead, this is a working class town.  The middle child that does her job, does good, and without complaint or praise.   Toledo does have a history of powerful and successful business leaders who heavy invested in the city’s cultural attractions.  This city plays host to an art museum that will wow, a zoo that will educate, and sports teams to entertain.  Toledo may be a tough town to love, but in the end, you just might.

If you are up for a drive, Toledo’s far eastern suburbs include the lakeside resort towns of Port Clinton, Catawba Island, and Marblehead.  Both Port Clinton and Catabwa Island have seasonal ferry service to Put-in-Bay Island.
