Destination of the Week: Chicago-Hyde Park, IL

Destination of the Week: Chicago-Hyde Park, IL

Summary:
Only 8 miles from downtown, Hyde Park feels like a world away from the 24-hour activity of downtown and many northern neighborhoods.  Hyde Park made its mark as the home of the Chicago Columbian Exposition and has only grown and matured since then.  With numerous museums, theatres, and other activities, a GLCTer could easily spend an entire weekend and never leave the neighborhood.

A special note for first timers-while the neighborhood itself is enjoyable, neighborhoods south and west are perceived (sometimes for good reason) for having crime issues.  While most of Chicago has seen drops in overall crime, one should still be aware of the surroundings.
