Some stories are just tough to tell. An accidental president, President Ford was faced by challenges not of his making. The Gerald R Ford Presidential Museum tries to explain the man, his background, and the turbulent environment his administration faced. The museum’s exhibits feel a little dated (a renovation is planned), but still do a solid job. On display is a replica of the Oval Office, the many stunning gowns worn by First Lady Betty Ford, and even the gun used by a would-be assassin. Both President Ford and First Lady Betty Ford are buried at the museum in a quiet garden.
Parking is free, but the entrance is difficult to find. For researchers, please note that the presidential library is NOT in Grand Rapids. The library is located on the University of Michigan’ Ann Arbor campus.
