Destination of the Week: Chicago-Northern Kankakee County, IL

Destination of the Week: Chicago-Northern Kankakee County, IL

Summary:
Chicago’s southern most suburb, Kankakee, locally is best known for hosting Chicago Bear’s summer training camp.  While not a destination spot, there are at least a few fun things that can make for an enjoyable summer day.  For architecture fans, there is the B. Harley Bradley House museum.  More of an outdoor hiker?  The Perry Farm Park has miles of hiking trails.  History buffs will enjoy the informative county history museum.  The downtown area is a little underused and many area attractions are a little outside of walking distance.

Special note: While Kankakee is pretty much accepted as a suburb, the city is not linked into the metro area’s mass transit system.  Amtrak does make regular stops, but be careful of times and availability.
