Destination of the Week: Detroit, MI-Henry Ford Museum (in suburban Dearborn)

The slogan for the entire Henry Ford/Greenfield Village complex is “America’s Greatest History Attraction”, and it lives up to its slogan!  The Henry Ford Museum’s collection spans so many areas and has so many historically significant artifacts that a full day may not be enough to see it all.  Artifacts include an amazing auto collection, Rosa Park’s bus, and the chair President Lincoln sat in at the Washington’s Ford Theatre.  Other attractions offered include the Ford Rouge Factory Tour and an IMAX Theatre.

Note: It may be tempting to try to tackle the two museums, the tour, and theatre in one day.  If you are really time pressed, it may be possible, but not recommended.  Also, transit options from downtown Detroit hotels to Dearborn are limited and potentially expensive.  Fortunately Dearborn has a number of great hotels and an Amtrak station.
