Destination of the Week: Saugatuck, Douglas & Fennville Area, MI

Destination of the Week: Saugatuck, Douglas & Fennville Area, MI

Summary:
The Saugatuck, Douglas, and Fennville Area, for being a small collection of very small towns, has an outsized reputation as being one of the best vacation areas in the Midwest.  Recently USA Today’s Readers Choice selected Saugatuck as the 2015 ‘Best Coastal Small Town’.  The focal point is Saugatuck with its small business district, a number of great restaurants and bars, and one of the best beaches on Lake Michigan.  Douglas, only about a mile away, is even smaller with a business district of about three tiny blocks.  Douglas is also the home of one of the largest gay resorts in the region.  Fennville is nearly a welcomed afterthought.  The least touristy of the three (with prices to match), it is the home address for a number of agritourism attractions and the area’s second largest gay resort.
