Destination of the Week: Chicago-Downtown (South Loop), IL-Chinatown neighborhood
When one thinks of major Chinatown neighborhoods, often New York, Los Angles, or San Francisco first come to mind. It is time to add Chicago to that list. Nestled in the far southwest corner of downtown, for now it is well protected from downtown’s tower expansion. Truly a Chinatown neighborhood, it is just worth the visit to explore the neighborhood. Retail stores are concentrated on South Wentworth Avenue and a northern expansion called Chinatown Square. North of the shopping districts is Ping Tom Memorial Park. Located on the Chicago River, the park offers playgrounds, a hiking trail, and a dock for seasonal water taxi service to the Loop. Restaurants can vary greatly in quality so be prepared and do a little advance research.
