Destination of the Week: Chicago-Downtown (North Loop), IL

Destination of the Week: Chicago-Downtown (North Loop), IL

Summary:

Of the four major downtown Chicago areas, North Loop probably has the most overall activity.  The section nearest the river is the home of many of Chicago’s most successful startups and a growing number of high-end and mid-priced hotels.  The area is also known for its interesting mix of bars and restaurants, including the Hard Rock Café, Rock & Roll McDonald’s, and the Baton, a drag bar packed each weekend with tourists and locals.  The Magnificent Mile area is considered the Midwest’s top shopping destination.  Along the lakefront is the dense Streeterville area with its condo buildings, hotels, and Navy Pier.  Finally, along the northern section is Old Town, the home of many of Chicago’s wealthiest families, top neighborhood bars, and leafy streets right out of central casting.
