One of many private museums, the International Museum of Surgical Science is as potential gross and fascinating as one would expect. Located in the far northeastern corner of downtown, it may be easiest to take the El to a nearby station and walk to the museum. Based in a converted mansion, the former rooms have been transformed into galleries exploring surgical science, it history, and advancements. The gift shop is a little small so postcards just might be it for the non-medical visitor.
