Destination of the Week: Milwaukee, WI

Destination of the Week: Milwaukee, WI

Summary:
It is hard to resist the urge to begin singing in your head, “One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Schlemeel, schlemazel, hasenfeffer incorporated.” the moment you arrive in Milwaukee. An entire generation’s first introduction to Milwaukee was with the classic sitcom “Happy Days” and its spinoff “Laverne & Shirley”.  There is even a statue of The Fonz on the Milwaukee Riverwalk.

Fast forward from 1983 to 2015 and Milwaukee, like many fans of “Happy Days”, has grown up, grown out, and in some places, changed for the better.  The lakefront now is the home of a number of museums, parks, festival grounds, and condo towers.  Many near-downtown neighborhoods have seen mini-rebirths while keeping the charms that attracted people in the first place.  While the city continues to lack modern mass transit options (a streetcar/light rail system is in the works), the city’s general compactness makes even cab rides to the massive casino, brewery tours, and ballgames relatively painless.  With a number of hotels in and around downtown, a GLCTer should find one that perfect for a getaway.

So give in and have some fun:
“Give us any chance, we'll take it
Read us any rule, we'll break it
We're gonna make our dreams come true
Doin' it our way”
