Destination of the Week: Indianapolis, IN-Indiana Historical Society/Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center

Destination of the Week: Indianapolis, IN-Indiana Historical Society/Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center

So, how does a museum make two dimensional documents exciting?  This innovative museum provides some interesting options.  Instead of halls and galleries of static documents and cute displays, the museum dedicates one room where a person can site down comfortably and digitally explore the collection.    Once you have had your fill, you can then move to the next section where the documents and people come alive.  In a section called “You are There” you are “transported” to real places in history.  Oh, and upon your arrival you have the fun of interacting with real actors taking on the roles of everyday and famous people.  The first time expect to feel a bit awkward (I did!), but by the time you complete the second or third it will feel fun and natural.
