Unlike most other large cities, Chicago does not have a central market hall or even market district. Most have been pushed out to industrial districts far from downtown and are wholesale only. The closest to a market hall is the privately run Chicago French Market. Located UNDER a commuter rail station, it can be hard to find on the first try. Once inside a visitor will find 30 plus stalls of food, gifts, and other treats. The market is the perfect final stop for those departing from Union Station needing something special to eat on the way home.
