Destination of the Week: Chicago-Lake County, IL

Destination of the Week: Chicago-Lake County, IL

Summary:
Lake County, IL (not to be confused with Lake County, IN) offers so many high-quality destinations that it might be worth the expense of renting an auto and exploring.  The top two attractions, Six Flags Great America and Gurnee Mills outlet mall, are located right across the expressway from each other.  If something a bit more laid back is your goal, the county also has a number of inland and lake state parks, including one with an onsite hotel.  While the county suffers from a lack of hotels near Metra commuter lines into Chicago, if you are staying this far north most likely you are not going try a city visit.  Have your smartphone and a map app at the ready since some state routes and attractions can be a little difficult to find the first time.

Go if you like:
-Beaches
-Amusement parks
-Outlet mall shopping
