Located nearly in the middle of downtown, the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) filled an ugly gap on the main commercial district with a light-filled and active anchor. The collection is still fairly young when compared to Toledo’s collection, but with ArtPrize, the collection should fill out with some exciting new and thought-provoking art. But with all new enterprises there are bound to be some missteps. The on-site restaurant is closed (like Davenport’s Figge Art Museum) and the outdoor space seems underused. Also, if visiting within a month of ArtPrize, expect that a few of the galleries will be closed for installations.
